English Department's students explored many more avenues on Blues Music than it was previously, and the class was historical. Prof.Roberts treatment of more contemporary popular culture was in brief, although students made comparisons between historical work and contemporary forms of culture throughout the lecture. At the end of presentation students interrogated question of social class, race, and gender when evaluating cultural forms and experiences. This lecture explored a fascinating terrain -- it is, in essence, the history of Blues Music and Language Variation in America. Meanwhile, students did very significant historical work: evaluating the history of not only American culture, but American society.
