Round Table Meeting with the British Ambassador

H.E. Mr. Nigel Casey, the British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina visits Burch University

H.E. Mr. Nigel Casey, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Bosnia and Herzegovina, visited International Burch University and led an extremely interactive discussion with the academic staff and students of the English Department on Wednesday, the 30th of November in the newly opened Center for American Studies.

Head of the English Department Dr. Azamat Akbarov briefly introduced the structure of the meeting and encouraged students to use the moment for asking relevant questions. Mr. Casey was determined to lead a discussion, rather than give a lecture, in order to find out the students’ views on important issues regarding Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United Kingdom and the European Union. In the very beginning, Mr. Casey gave a short introduction by talking about his time spent in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Focusing on the things that can be done in the future, he gave a short speech that included his own opinion about this specific topic, after which he was opened to the questions of the audience.

The interest for the information that Mr. Casey was offering was visible not only among students, but also among the academic staff. Therefore, in the question and answer part aroused the issue of Visas related to the possibility of education in the United Kingdom and issues regarding Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Turkey as well, that were related to the European Union. H.E. Casey gave clear and detailed answers elaborating all of these issues.

After a 45 minutes long discussion, Mr. Casey kindly concluded the Round Table Meeting, and mutually agreed with Dr.Akbarov to continue and strengthen education partnership through the British Council as well.

Dr.Akbarov thanked the Ambassador for his willingness to make some significant points clearer and for holding this rather unconventional, interesting lecture and on behalf of the Burch University presented a souvenir gift to Mr.Casey.
