This year’s International Conference on Foreign Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics (FLTAL '14) again brought together some of the most important researchers, linguists and professors from all parts of the world. Opening ceremony on 9th of May was attended by Federal Education Minister, Rectors from B-H, Slovenia and Turkey, Ambassadors of the neighbor countries and many international organizations representatives, as well as conference participants from 6 continents.
Conference was successfully started with the two keynote lectures by Steven Pinker from Harvard University entitled „The Psychology of Innuendo and Euphemism“, and Ronald Langacker from University of California with the work „How to Build an English Clause“, and numerous conference sessions realization from 13:00 until 19:30.
Second day of the conference also brought interesting keynote speeches by:
- Alison Mackey from Georgetown University entitled „Methodological Practice and progression in Second Language Research“,
- Nick Elis from University of Michigan with the lecture „Implicit and Explicit SLA and their Interface“, and
- Norbert Schmitt from University of Nottingham with the topic „Formulaic Language”.
Two working days of the conference brought numerous very productive sessions where 612 researchers from 6 continents and 60 countries presented their researches, findings and enhance their networks meeting with their colleagues’ from different places. Conference covered topics as applied linguistics, Cognitive linguistics, Cognitive and construction grammars, Discourse analyses, Language acquisition and learning, Language curriculum development, Language education and variety of close topics.
FLTAL '14 was closed with Closing Ceremony where the entire student volunteers, who were engaged in the FLTAL conference organization were invited to a stage got a great applause.
Some of the participants, who were eager to share their thoughts about the conference with the audience got on the stage and shared their most positive impressions.
Later on Federal Minister of Education and Science kindly handed a Plaquettes of Appreciation to Keynote Speakers, and rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Uzunoğlu awarded a Plaquette of Appreciation to Minister Mašić.
The evening had its official closure with a concert of musical group Divanhana, who performs traditional music in new arrangements, not only from Bosnia and Herzegovina but also the traditional music from the whole Balkan region, with a particular accent to Sevdalinka.
On Sunday, all conference participants went to a Herzegovina for a touristic trip and sightseeing of natural and historical beauties of the country.
