On November 28, 2016, we had a special guest lecturer who has had incredible achievements in his career and has contributed to the overall improvement of science in his community. Edhem (Eddie) Čustović is an engineer who is specialized in interdisciplinary work and problem solving in general. He has a passion for engineering, science, education, entrepreneurship, innovation and commercialization.
Dr. Čustović was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina and lived for extended periods in Switzerland and Germany, before migrating to Australia. He is a cross-disciplinary early career researcher and facilitator of multi-stakeholder investigations. One of the most notable projects he was involved in was the development of a digital radar that is much easier to manipulate and therefore more informative data can be obtained from it.
During the speech, Dr. Čustović emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary work and how that is currently the leading trend in the world. Furthermore, he stated that having knowledge in one field only is not enough to be very successful. Basic knowledge of fields other than the one you are specialized in as well as the will to listen to the problems of other fields are the keys to success in science and connecting industry with the academic world.
Rector of the International Burch University, Prof. Dr. Damir Marjanović and the Head of Genetics and Bioengineering Department, Assist. Prof. Dr. Almir Badnjević talked to Dr. Čustović about the future collaboration in various aspects between La Trobe University and Burch University. The collaboration has already started since Dr. Čustović is appointed as the co-chair of the 2nd International Conference on Medical and Biological Engineering B&H (CMBEBiH) which will be held in March next year at International Burch University.
