Today, on February 26, 2016, in the newly opened Conference Hall at BURCH University, a manifestation in honor of the upcoming Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina was held.
The Rector of the International BURCH University, Prof. Dr. Teoman Duman opened the manifestation and also noted the importance of the holiday, both for Bosnia and Herzegovina and her peoples. Dr. Duman thanked all professors and students who put in the effort to organize this wonderful manifestation in honor of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
All those present enjoyed a rich program, which BURCH students planned and executed with minimal assistance from their mentors. Besides the national anthem, patriotic recitations, clippings from the traditional Bosnian play “Hasanaginica,” those present had the opportunity to hear a variety of musical presentations, including solo singing and group acts. The group “Sevdah Ask Groove,” which had a warm reception from the audience, sang the traditional Bosnian love song “sevdalinka.”
Bosnia’s Independence Day is a national holiday that is market on March 1 of each year, which celebrates Bosnia and Herzegovina’s independence from the former Yugoslavia. The referendum for independence was held on the recommendation of the Arbitration Commission for Yugoslavia of the international community, in the final stages of the dissolution of the Social Federative Republic of Yugoslavia. It was held on February 29 and March 1.
Happy Independence Day, Bosnia and Herzegovina!
