The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) is a funding organization for the creation of research networks, called COST Actions. These networks offer an open space for collaboration among scientists across Europe (and beyond) and thereby give impetus to research advancements and innovation.
Networking is possible based on the researcher’s own interests and ideas – by submitting proposals in any scientific field to an open COST call. The fact is that COST actions are highly interdisciplinary and open, and it is possible to join ongoing actions and is therefore continuously expanding over a four-year period.
COST emphasizes the active involvement of researchers from less inclusive COST countries, including our country.
The great advantage is that COST funding is intended to complement national research funds, as they are exclusively intended for cooperative activities such as workshops, conferences, working group meetings, training schools, short-term scientific missions and dissemination, and communication activities.
Within the COST program, several professors from Burch International have already had the opportunity to collaborate internationally with other researchers, engineers, and academics in Europe.
Brussels was the site of the recently held the first Management Committee meeting of the newly established COST Action CA18204 – Dynamics of placemaking and digitization in Europe´s cities.
The first Management Committee meeting was attended by representatives from more than 20 CCA members and including Bosnia and Herzegovina’s representative prof. Dr. Erna Husukić from the Department of Architecture at the International Burch University. In addition to prof. Husukić, Head of the Department of Architecture, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emina Zejnilovic was also nominated as a member of this COST action, becoming two of four members of this action in whole Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Every application for this project is a new opportunity to strengthen networking, which is our main goal. Making new contacts with academics at the European level, making new acquaintances with professional people is of great importance for our professional development, as well as the development of our University ”, said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erna Husukić.
As outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding, COST action aims to address issues related to the transfer of placemaking practices and knowledge via new media and the role of digitization in the dissemination and sharing of local urban knowledge. The action will run from 22 November 2019 to 21 November 2023 with the aim of encouraging citizens to contribute, through knowledge, practice, digitization, and planning, to different ways of interpreting local identities in European cities.
After forming the four major working groups (4WGs), the meeting ended with discussions and presentations of working group representatives.
International Burch University pays great attention and gives space to the work of the project office and actively contributes to the development and implementation of projects. We continue to follow the work of our professors through projects as we seek to strengthen excellence in science by developing ideas and initiatives in all fields of science.
