For the third year in a row, Let’s Enjoy English competition has taken place at International Burch University and it has been organized by the Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Education and Humanities, in close cooperation with the Pedagogical Institute of Sarajevo Canton. Thus, on 14 March 2019, 120 smart, creative, and courageous young individuals demonstrated the knowledge they had acquired, made themselves and their teachers proud and enriched their circle of friends.
The opening ceremony began with welcoming speeches of the rector of International Burch University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Damir Marjanović, and the dean of Faculty of Education and Humanities, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senad Bećirović. After the inspiring speeches, a freshman student, Hana Škarić, one of the winners of Let's Enjoy English 2018, described her experience at the Department of English Language and Literature and the paths that led her in that direction.
After the ceremony, the preliminary round of the general knowledge quiz was held and 31 pairs from various high schools in Sarajevo Canton participated in this part of the competition. The program continued with the Spelling Bee contest which was entered by 43 contestants. The winner of this part of the competition was Faruk Šakat, Second Gymnasium Sarajevo, the second place was taken by Hamza Bosno, Second Gymnasium Sarajevo, while the third place was won by Nora Markanović from the Third Gymnasium Sarajevo. Afterward, the students who submitted their stories for the Writopia contest had a chance to share the inspiration behind their stories with the audience in five-minute-long sessions. The winner of this competition was Ajla Smajić, JU High-school Center „Hadžići“, whereas the second and the third places were taken by Amina Hasović and Alen Mrdović from Second Gymnasium Sarajevo. The final round of the general knowledge quiz was the last part of the competition. The first place of the quiz was taken by Martina Larma and Lejla Vrčić, Second Gymnasium Sarajevo, the second place by Nejla Bakarević and Amina Damadžić, First Bosniak High School Sarajevo, while the third place went to Edin Manjo and Dino Kukan, Fourth Gymnasium Sarajevo.
At the closing ceremony, the dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senad Bećirović awarded the best students the certificates and special prizes. The closing ceremony was held in a very pleasant atmosphere which was lightened by an amazing singing performance of our English language and literature student Ilma Karahmet.
