The guest lecture focused on the history of the state security service of the German Democratic Republic and the state of repression and civil rights in East and West Germany during the Cold War with an added focus on Dr. Dümmel’s own experiences. It represented the culmination lecture of the course for the newest generation of IRES students and was followed by an eager question and answer period. There were several other IRES students and faculty in attendance as well.
