Master in English Language and Literature

Postgraduate studies at our department offer an alternative to more traditional Humanities-based similar studies by providing a unique combination of subject expertise and offering access to a wider range of study opportunities and specialization options which are essential to anyone who intends to pursue a career in the fields whose essence is based on the knowledge and skills whose obtainment can hardly occur elsewhere.

The department's members bring their multidisciplinary interests to their courses, addressing various areas such as

A meticulous approach to the study of general, applied and socio-linguistics and their relationship with other arts, sciences, history, philosophy, sociology, psychology etc.; comprehensive literature analysis and the nature of literary language; language acquisition strategies and processes; an in-depth, both practical and theoretical, study of scientific research methods.

Program

MA studies at the Department of English Language and Literature are designed to all individuals who share passion for learning and exploring languages, and who wish to specialize in the area of language education, linguistics and/or literature.

It also equips students with vital skills such as reasoning, comprehension, philosophical understanding, creative and critical thinking, linguistic and research competency, communication etc. which enable students to take part in scholarly activities and contribute to analysis of various phenomena on both individual and societal level.

Program structure

1 Year (4+1) Study Program with Thesis

Students who obtain 60 ECTS credits (4+1 study program) will be eligible for the title of ‘The Master of Arts in English Language and Literature.’ Open to all Bachelor majors (240 ECTS), this program consists of a number of elective courses which can be tailored to suit the individual student’s degree. The first semester encompasses five courses in total and the second semester two courses, with the remaining ECTS credits allocated for the MA thesis.

2 Year (3+2) Study Program with Thesis

Students who obtain 120 ECTS credits (3+2 study program) will be eligible for the title of ‘The Master of Arts in English Language and Literature.’ Open to all Bachelor majors (180 ECTS), this program consists of a number of elective courses which can be tailored to suit the individual student’s degree. The first two semesters contain ten courses in total, while the remaining two semesters are reserved for the thesis writing process.

Learning

We also offer Distance Learning (DL) programs to our MA students. DL is a formalized system of education in which students use computer technology and interactive teaching materials that provide access to educational processes. Distance learning program offers you enormous flexibility to spend your time according to your requirements and is a practical alternative to classroom-based instruction.
