Opening ceremony of the British Cultural Centre, sponsored by the UK government in Bosnia and Herzegovina took place yesterday at International Burch University at 11:00 o’clock
The British Cultural Centre officially was opened by:
- H.E. Nigel Casey, British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina,
- Mr. Ismail Yapici, General Director of Bosna Sema Educational Institutions and
- Mr. Samir Avdibegović, Project Delivery Manager at British Council.
The British Cultural Centre is joint project of the UK Government and International Burch University, and an excellent place where students of the IBU will learn about history and heritage of Britain, but also about the new modern country that leads the global trends in business, innovation, education, ecology, creative industry.
On 27 July 2012 the eyes of the world will be on the UK, as the Olympic Games begins in London, therefore the opening of the ‘British Cultural Centre’ is dedicated to the Games on the same day when 100 days to opening countdown started. This space also will be used for different exhibitions and for the conduction of the classes.
British Embassy and International Burch University cooperation initiator, Assist. Prof. Dr. Azamat Akbarov, Head of English Department, within his speech expressed the commitment of having series of lectures, organizing international conferences, inviting foreign ambassador and diplomats and establishing cultural centers to promote the understanding and friendship among the cultures. At the end Assist. Prof. Dr. Akbarov expressed his great pleasure and thanked the British Embassy and H.E. Ambassador Mr.Nigel Casey for his kind support of our initiatives and British Council in Sarajevo for their support in proving and turning Sarajevo into the hub of international knowledge and events.
