Second International Conference on Foreign Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics (2nd FLTAL) has started today
Assist. Prof. Dr. Azamat Akbarov, the main organizer and Chairman of the 2nd FLTAL Conference held an opening speech and welcomed around 400 participants, from 51 countries around the world, greeting them in various languages and stating his hopes that their stay in Sarajevo will be comfortable.
Addressing the guests, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Padem, Rector of the University, also welcomed the attendees and focused on the mission of the University. Rector emphasized positive actions and influence, such as this conference is, to the educating opportunities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the end, Rector Padem expressed his gratitude to all who contributed in the organization of the conference and wished his best to participants.
Later on Federal Minister of Education and Science Mr. Damir Mašić also addressed the audience, stressing that Bosnia and Herzegovina needs more projects which will promote education and give an opportunity to present unique ideas.
Minister Mašić pointed International Burch University as a positive example of one private university and underlined his readiness for providing his and support of the Ministy in future projects, which are for the well being of this country and its people.
Further on Prof. Dr. Ninoslav Stojadinović, Ambassador of Republic of Serbia in BiH, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kaçalin, Chairman of Turkish Language Institute of Turkey, Mr. Thomas E. Mesa, Public Affairs Officer of US Embassy in BiH, Ms. Maja Foretić – Pećnik, Deputy Head of Mision of Croatian Embassy in BiH and Ms. Jo Lomas Deputy Head of Mision of British Embassy in BiH also addressed to the participants in IBU conference room.
Opening of the working part of the conference was done by Rod Ellis, from University of Auckland, New Zealand, who crushed the ice as a first keynote speaker, and amazed everyone with his topic of ’’The Effects of Explicit Instuctions on Second Language Acquisition’’.
Tomorrow, 5th of May, one of the keynote speakers, Mr. Vivian Cook from Newcastle University, UK, will hold a lecture about ‘’The native speaker and The Second Language User’’, starting from 09:00 a.m. in the Conference Hall.
