The Office for Scientific Research and International Relations organized two workshops with eminent professor
Prof. Dr. Alan Tonkyn, Honorary Fellow in Applied Linguistics from University of Reading on 19th of November held two very important lectures from the field of second language skills and processing at the International Burch University. Students and teachers who joined the morning session enjoyed detailed information and interesting examples and comparisons from different world languages.
“Form-focused Teaching and the Communicative Language Teacher: Can the Explicit Aid the Implicit” entitled first workshop gave the interesting view on Spolsky’s 6 opportunities, and model of second language acquisition with the stress on the terms of explicit and implicit learning.
After the first workshop for undergraduate students, Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Padem received Prof. Dr. Tonkyn and Rector Deputy, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azamat Akbarov at his office. Rector expressed his appreciation to Prof. Dr. Tonkyn for visiting Burch University and sharing part of his rich academic experience.
Later in the afternoon Prof. Dr. Alan Tonkyn came together with graduate students and academic staff and gave a lecture entitled: “Researching Second Language Acquisition: What Makes for Good Research?”. The lecture was very significant for young researches that are at the beginning of their academic path and eager to get to know more knowledge so they can apply it in their works.
