On 27th of March The Association for Applied Linguistics in Bosnia and Herzegovina was presented in inauguration ceremony at the International Burch University campus. The ceremony was attended by English language linguistics experts from Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Mostar, as well as by guests from other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On behalf of the International Burch University guests were addressed by the President of the Association for Applied Linguistics in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azamat Akbarov, who greeted honored guests and thanked them for the support in founding of the Association, expressing his wishes that this association will be a meeting place for members from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Sen. Teach. Assist. Amina Osmanović and Sen. Teach. Assist. Mersima Strika, then introduced the website and Journal of Foreign Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics (J-FLTAL), and program host invited honored guests to address the audience.
First members of the Association, Prof. Dr. Srebren Dizdar and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Merima Osmankadić from University of Sarajevo, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Izabela Dankić from University of Mostar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Željka Babić from University of Banja Luka, and Professor Victoria Murphy expressed their sincere congratulations to founders, especially to enthusiast President Dr. Akbarov.
Mr. Samir Avdibegović, on behalf of the British Council, also congratulated the Founders and said that the Council will keep supporting all activities and projects organized at the International Burch University which have the impact on the society in the field of English language. At the end, Mrs. Zenaida Karavdić, as one of the founders, underlined that there were significant number of activities taken before the Associations saw lights of the day, but at the end it will be worth because it will bring together members within the country and enrich cooperation with similar Associations in the region.
Even though representatives of Federal Ministry of Education and Science representatives were unable to attend the ceremony, AALBiH got its support, and the support of professor Sanda Lucija Udier, President of the Croatian Applied Linguistics Society and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Igor Lakić, from the Society of Applied Linguistics of Montenegro.
At the end Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azamat Akbarov and Professor Victoria Murphy from Oxford University awarded Membership Certificates to honored guests from different Universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and British Council.
