On Wednesday, 22 April 2015, students of English Language and Literature Department together with students of Genetics and Bioengineering Department organized a celebration of the Earth Day.
The Earth Day, when people demonstrate their support for environment, was first celebrated in 1970 and ever since it is celebrated in more than 192 countries each year.
This was the first time this occasion is celebrated at our university, as students wanted to express their appreciation towards Earth. The program started with the recitation of famous Bosnian poem called “Modra rijeka”, and continued with the video and presentation on history of the Earth Day celebration.
Afterwards, Genetics and Bioengineering students demonstrated a small experiment to show how materials can be disposed and recycled. Students also presented posters and their works about earth pollution, and at the end they prepared a short quiz, as well as symbolic rewards for correct answers. Not only students had fun but also they have learned new and useful things.
The program was concluded with the message to students to pay respect to our planet and behave conscientiously in order to preserve the Earth for generations to come.
