BURCH University students won the 1st and 2nd place on IEEE Poster Session Congress 2016

Student and Young Professional Congress 2016 was held in Sarajevo, from the 1st to the 4th of December 2016, in organization of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), where BURCH University students, Dalibor Đumić and Jasna Nuhić won the 1st and the 2nd place.

IEEE is global technical community, universally recognized for the contributions of technology and of technical professionals in improving global conditions.  The activities of the congress were Poster presentation and Ideation-Innovation Hackathon, where students from all universities in BiH presented their ideas.

BURCH sudents of second and third year of EEE department, Jasna Nuhić, Amila Kaharević, Naida Hodžić, Ermin Šunj, Tarik Ibrahimpašić and Dalibor Đumić, with mentor Damir Bilić participated in the Ideation-Innovation Hackathon.

On Poster Session where students presented their individual projects, Dalibor Đumić, with mentors and professors Jasmin Kevrić and Almir Badnjević, won the 1st place. Dalibor developed and implemented “Arrows System” which is system that allows disabled people to control an electric wheelchair with intense eye-blinks. This project is mobile so it can be implemented not only on the electric wheelchair, but in other driving vehicles.  "The device scans brain activity, and also has the ability to scan and receives impulses from the eye, or the eyelashes. Tiny muscles are found on the lashes, and when the eye blinks, muscles send an electrical impulse to the brain", explained Dalibor Đumić. Jasna Nuhić, with mentor Prof. Dr. Nejdet Doğru, won the 2nd place with her project "Plastic Waste To Fuel"

"Based on my experience, I do not see this as some kind of handicap – Dalibor is very proactive, full of ideas, and unlike some other students, he is the one who makes us professors work with ideas, he pushes us towards ideas", said Dalibor’s mentor Jasmin Kevrić, professor at BURCH University, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The Congress was a great experience for our students especially because they met a lot of stunning entrepreneurs from the World and they had great opportunity to listen to amazing and inspiring life-stories of the Congress speakers. At the end, it was a great opportunity to build networking between our University and other Universities with the IEEE organization.
