As part of a joint design studio, Ars Aevi – Museum of Contemporary Art in Sarajevo- 40 Italian students and 4 professors visit BURCH for a collaborative workshop from April 1 – April 6, 2016.
The Department of Architecture at BURCH and that of the University “G. d’Annunzio started their co-operation in September 2015 when four IBU students and three members of teaching staff participated in the International Pescara Summer School in Pescara, Italy.
Following that event, the two departments decided to collaborate on a joint design studio entitled “Ars Aevi—Museum of Contemporary Art in Sarajevo”. The project brief calls upon the students at both universities to envision and propose a design for a new building that will house the Ars Aevi collection, which is temporarily stored at the Skenderija complex. The students are asked to understand the significance of the collection, the history of the museum, and the urban context of the site for the new museum.
As part of the design studio, forty Italian students and four professors visited Sarajevo to participate in a joint workshop with IBU from April 1 – April 6, 2016. The IBU and Pescara students together visited Ars Aevi museum on April 3 where they were introduced to the history of the project and the significance of the collection by the director of Ars Aevi, Mr. Enver Hadžiomersphaić. After the Ars Aevi visit, the students made their way to the proposed site of the new museum.
In the following days the two groups of students had a chance to present their work and exchange design strategies for the new museum at IBU. This project is on going and the collaboration will continue virtually. The final work will be exhibited at both universities upon completion at the end of the semester.
BURCH Architecture is in the process of signing an Erasmus Agreement as well as Mutual Understanding Agreement with the Architecture Department at the University “G. d’Annunzio” that will further fortify the collaboration between the two universities.
