Assist. Prof. Dr. Dejan Jokić early made his first steps in the field of electrical engineering, it happened in the sixth grade of primary school, when he got a soldering tool and a universal instrument as a present.
. It was not long, and his desk was crowded with various creations such as electrical circuits of the components of the toys, electromotors and LEDs. This step lead him to Electrical Engineering secondary school where he enrolled to become a repairer of TV sets. At the urge of his parents, he continued with the fourth year of study in the same school, which further defined his path to academic titles. Professor Jokić made a large number of devices already at university, and actively applied his gained knowledge in practice. Today Professor Dejan Jokić is part of the academic team of BURCH University and a person with ten-year experience in dealing with students who loudly, or through anonymous surveys, express that he is the best proffesor and awarded his work with highest marks.
I made first steps in the field of electrical engineering in the 6th grade when I got the soldering tool and a universal instrument as a gift. It allowed me to make a simple electrical circuit of the components of toys, electric motors, LEDs etc. Even then, I expressed the wish to enroll to the Electrical Engineering secondary school by the end of primary school, course "TV repairer". Given that it was a three-year long study, my parents persuaded me to continue with the four-year course in the same school. Many years of practice has enabled me, being a graduate student, to participate in the development of a large number of devices in the K-Inel company from East Sarajevo. In addition to practical work, I was the first student from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering who published two scientific papers at the conference Infotech, which opened the "official door" of the faculty where I was employed immediately after graduation.
The students awarderd his work was with the highest marks for the best lecturer at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of East Sarajevo. Dejan is the author of scientific papers published in conferences that were indexed by Thomson Reuters, Scopus and IFAC papers, Elsevier publisher, and a paper published in the journal AEEE.
His work with students is especially recognized through active participation in the Summer School "Modern Mechatronic Systems", with him as founder, where hundreds of students from all the countries in the region and EU countries are actively participating.
Our colleague, Prof. Jokić, is a prominent member of the Program Committee of the conference IFAC / IEEE 2016 PDEs (Programmable Devices and Embedded Systems), which was held in Brno, Czech Republic, and which is also indexed by Thomson Reuters, Scopus and IFAC papers, publisher Elsevier, is a longtime member of IEEE organization, and president of the Student Branch of the University of East Sarajevo.
In his scientific accomplishments, he especially emphasizes the award IEEE coin of IEEE President and CEO Barry L. Shoop Ph.D., P. E., Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at West Point.
"At the YEP / IEEE Congress, which was held in early December at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Sarajevo, I had the honor to participate as a mentor of ETF I. Sarajevo 1. At the Congress I met students and professors from Burch University and to my surprise, not only they were not worse than students from 'state' universities, but they won the first two places in the competition at the poster session. Talking with them, I learned that they have a serious plan and program that is monitoring the most current technologies. After examining the webmetrics and Google Schoolar lists, I also learned that Burch University is second cited university in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the third by quality ", proudly said Jokić, who is now a prominent member of the academic team of Burch University.
After these events Professor Jokić had the clear picture, the brief interview and first-hand information was enough that, without second thoughts, he left his recent job and became a part of BURCH family. As he points out, the decision was simple and easy, modern curriculum that is used in teaching, positive working atmosphere and immediacy of successful professors, who are among the most quoted professors from Bosnia and Herzegovina, was the true turning point.
"Also, I liked the fact that the student at Burch University is seen as a" symbol of knowledge ", so it is acted and performed as it is suitable for a modern curriculum that accompanies the most current technology, this way Burch is providing comprehensive training to the student, preparing him/her for the labour market and this being huge advantage due to the acquired skills", adds professor Jokić.
