Honouring the annual World Aids Day, the SAFE organization in collaboration with the Red Cross of Ilidža Municipality have set up a stand at the International Burch University to help spread awareness by giving away the symbolic red ribbons and educational materials.
Members of the association have taken the time to talk to the students of the University, who have shown an admirable level of awareness of the issue and importance of the date and topic. AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is the late stage of the HIV infection, which attacks the immune system, which leads to the consequential development of various infectious and malignant illnesses. The red ribbon is a symbol of the fight against AIDS/HIV, and it became a renowned insignia of solidarity to those who suffer from this illness. The goals that the movement is trying to accomplish are simple. No HIV infection. No discrimination. No deaths caused by AIDS.
“This topic is one that cannot be taboo, and we must work hard to influence people and help inform them on the significance of this issue. We must inform people about the ways in which the HIV virus can be spread, and what we can do to prevent it. We must show people how we can help those who suffer from this illness”, said Fatima Kovačević, president of SAFE, adding also that there are still many people who are not aware of the issue, and that it is something that requires more than just a single day of the year to fix.
