On March 14, 2018, the competition entitled ‘Let's Enjoy English’ for students from high schools in Sarajevo Canton took place at the Department of English Language and Literature of the Faculty of Education and Humanities. The whole-day program was marked by three main events: the general knowledge quiz, the spelling bee, and the 300-word story writing contest.
This important event began with an opening ceremony and the inspiring speech of the dean of the Faculty of Education and Humanities at International Burch University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senad Bećirović, and by the recital of an English language and Literature Department student. After the ceremony, the preliminary round of the general knowledge quiz was entered by twenty-six pairs from various high schools in Sarajevo Canton. Afterward, the students who submitted their stories for the Writopia contest had a chance to present their stories in five-minute-long sessions and share the inspiration behind. The winner of this competition was Zehra-Astrid Merdžanić from Druga Gimnazija, while the second place was taken by Ajla Đinalić from Prva bošnjačka gimnazija and the third place by Dženeta Duraković from Četvrta gimnazija.
The whole-day program continued with the Spelling Bee contest, where a rather large number of contestants competed in a suspenseful game. It was ultimately won by Martina Larma, from Prva Gimnazija, while the second place was taken by Amin Smajović from Srednja medicinska škola, and the third place by Sabija Nizamić from Gimnazija SSST.
The final part of the competition was marked by the final round of the general knowledge quiz, in which the first place was taken by Hana Škarić and Arijan Ivanković from KŠC medicinska škola, the second place by Merisa Pleho and Sanin Delalić from Prva gimnazija, and the third place by Emina Suljić and Malik Mustafić from KŠC medicinska škola.
In the closing ceremony of this major event, the dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senad Bećirović, awarded the best students the certificates and special prizes, and the program of the closing ceremony was also marked by the recitals and speeches of the current students at the Department of English Language and Literature.
