Students and professors of the International Burch University in Sarajevo organized and hosted the first International Burch Week, during which an agreement for a joint interdisciplinary program was signed in the presence of prominent professors from the European Union, the region and other parts of the world.
Today's event, which was the central part of the International Burch Week, was further enriched by the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to BiH, Ivan Del Vechio, the representative of FH Burgenland, Prof. Dr. Sc. Dr. h. c. Irena Zavrl, and representatives of the University of Juraj Dobrila in Pula headed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Dean Sinković.
Rector of International Burch University in Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Damir Marjanović opened the ceremony of signing the agreement for a joint interdisciplinary program.
"A few years ago, we decided to sail into unknown waters on this stable ship which we call Burch University. That is precisely what we are doing right now. One of our desires is to give our students the best education possible and to prepare them for the Europe of the 21st century. We are committed to establishing cooperation with strong regional institutions and through that enable students to learn from leading experts in different fields, but also to participate in lectures at other universities. That is why today we sign an agreement which was in negotiation for years - a common interdisciplinary program which we will implement with our EU friends, colleagues from Juraj Dobrila University from Pula and our dear friends from the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland in Austria", said Marjanović
He added that it is auspicious that Burch University opened an international study program in international relations and European studies on Europe Day.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to BiH, H. E. Mr. Ivan Del Vechio, emphasized that Croatia believes in its neighbors and that universities from Croatia will always gladly cooperate with Burch University.
"I am especially happy that at Burch I can see the faces of people who can already foresee the future of BiH. I would like to congratulate you on the signing today's common interdisciplinary program agreement. Because of everything I see here I believe in the brilliant future of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which, I believe, will soon become a fully-fledged member of the EU, and those young people will have the freedom of movement and education. Croatia will always be with you", Del Vechio said.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Sanela Klarić, Vice-Rector of the International Burch University, provided the attendees with detailed information regarding the benefits of signing the joint interdisciplinary program agreement.
"I am proud to have succeeded in accomplishing this great feat, which is the product of our unceasing work and dedication. The act of signing this agreement means a lot to all of us who through this program met new friends, made friendships and built new bonds of trust which cannot be broken. This, of course, is just the first step. New achievements are undoubtedly coming", Klarić emphasized.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Jasmin Hasić from Burch University stressed the importance of bringing people and nations together and actively working in the region.
"European nations are converging. Therefore, it is important to emphasize the importance of this program, which has its focus on Europe, of which BiH will hopefully soon be a part of. Therefore, it is important to prepare students who are already studying in English at Burch, and that is why we see this program as a challenge. I am certain that in the coming period we will further enrich our teaching, our programs and the quality of our students' knowledge", said Hasić.
Prof. Dr. Sc. Dr. h. c. Irena Zavrl, representative of FH Burgenland from Austria, emphasized the importance of signing this agreement, as well.
"We worked hard, but we managed to achieve our primary goal, which is to serve the younger generations who we need to educate more and in a better way, and prepare for new challenges", added Zavrl.
Prof. Dr. Dean Sinković, the representative of the University of Juraj Dobrila from Pula, stated that the region lacked quality and updated curricula. "I assure you that in the region you will not find a study program of such quality as the one we signed today in Sarajevo. This is not only important for BiH, but also for all the countries in the region. Simply everyone needs knowledge and new skills, both of which are vitally important to us", added Sinković.
