The first sunny days of spring were not the only elements which added to the positive atmosphere at the Department. The students of the ELL department successfully staged the premiere of the play “12 Angry People”, which they were working on for the past few months. The play is an adaptation of Reginald Rose’s drama “Twelve Angry Men” and the title of the play was changed to include female characters as well. The play also touched upon several important issues of today, including immigration and prejudice, and emphasized the importance of morality and ethics within the contemporary society.
The story follows a jury of 12 people as they deliberate the guilt or innocence of a boy accused of killing his own father. At the beginning 11 members vote the boy guilty, while one of the jurors votes him not guilty, explaining her reasonable doubt and convincing everyone that based on the evidence there is a possibility that the boy is innocent.
A story with such a theme and such a static stage is not easily acted out. Nevertheless, the actors surpassed all expectations. The entire acting company with directors Amila Dautbašić, Enisa Bajić, and Raid Ćulah in charge deserve nothing but praise. We hope to see a repeat performance soon!
