On 25 March 2022, the Department of English Language and Literature hosted an amazing group of students from different high schools in Canton Sarajevo. The students attended a creative writing workshop “Writopia,” through which they prepared for a yearly competition under the same name organized by this department. The students had a chance to attend an interesting workshop BITE-SIZED: An Analysis and Application of Microfiction Components held by the fourth-year English Department student Uma Hamzić. In this workshop, the four critical components of good microfiction, a subset of flash/short fiction, were analyzed through examples of published works. This workshop was followed by the one on how to find “your own voice” in writing, Distinctive Writings: Having a Voice or Being an Echo?, held by our assistant Kenan Kadušić, which addressed the significance and variability of voice in prose fiction and elements that determine and form voice. As a part of the final activity, professor Murat Oner explained how stories are told through different perspectives in a workshop titled Whose gaze? (De)constructing Perspective in Narration. The workshops were held in a very positive and lively atmosphere. Amina Karčić and Merjem Avdić, the students at the Fourth Gymnasium, expressed their satisfaction with the workshops. Amin stated that the visit to International Burch University was very interesting, the lectures were very useful and the professors were very kind. She also emphasized that she learned a lot within these sessions. Merjem also stated that workshops were very helpful and insightful and she had a lot of fun. We hope to see all of these students in the Writopia competition to be held in May!
Studenti su najprije prisustvovali radionici BITE-SIZED: An Analysis and Application of Microfiction Components koju je održala studentica četvrte godine Odsjeka za anglistiku Uma Hamzić. (De)constructing Perspective in Narration.
Radionice su održane u veoma pozitivnoj atmosferi. Amina Karčić i Merjem Avdić, učenice Četvrte gimnazije, izrazile su zadovoljstvo radionicama kojima su prisustvovale.
