Through its Department of International Relations and European Studies, International Burch University, in collaboration with an informal group of students from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, organized the first iteration of BiH Model United Nations for both high school and university students
The conference began today and will last until June 19.
At the opening ceremony, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Mersid Poturak, rector of International Burch University, welcomed delegates and distinguished guests and wished them a pleasant stay at IBU.
Over 200 delegates from three continents arrived at the conference. A group of students from George State University, led by Prof.dr. Rashid Naim, also arrived at IBU. This year, IBU students and Goerge State University students attended a MUN conference in New York together.
Prof. Dr. Alija Kozljak, head of the Department of International Relations and European Studies, expressed gratitude to Professor Naim for his visit and encouragement and help in organsing BH MUN.
Dalia Beridan, secretary general of BHMUN, stated that young people must take responsibility for their future as well as current events, and that this conference is an excellent opportunity for them to share their knowledge and learn from one another.
Ingrid MacDonald, the UN Resident Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, also addressed the audience. She stated that these conferences are held all over the world and that they frequently lead to a future carrier choice. Model United Nations teaches young people how they can influence and change the world.
H.E. Daniel Hunn, Ambassador of Switzerland to BiH, was also present at BH MUN opening ceremony.
