IRES student Irena Žarić will participate in Bold Fellowship project

The BOLD Institute on Civic Engagement is an intensive five-week-long academic program that will take place at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, the U.S. Embassy’s implementing partner for this program. The program will include an academic residency for four weeks at UNO which will include classes on leadership development, local community activities, cultural visits, opportunities to engage with a diverse group of Americans, followed by a one-week educational study tour of Washington, D.C., and New York City.

BOLD Fellows Institute is designed to strengthen civic engagement leadership development across Bosnia and Herzegovina and provide hands-on leadership experience in developing action project ideas to improve communities and strengthen people-to-people ties between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

„I’m a very enthusiastic, proactive, and curious young person. Since I was in high school I am very active in the NGO sector, interested in the self-development and improvement of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with emphasis on the local community. Currently, I’m shifting my focus to sustainable business in the field of agriculture and energy. I think that no matter how rapidly our world is transforming people will always have a necessity for food and electricity. These two concepts I would combine in building an eco-sustainable farm that would bring a transformation to the entire community“, said Irena.

Her idea will be implemented in three phases, which will combine:

1. the development of rural tourism, nourishment of tradition and our cultural heritage;

2. food production from eco-sustainable sources with unique recepture;

3. and finally in the third phase, sustainable energy production from renewable sources and recycling.

This is a perfect opportunity to implement idea that leaves no one behind, especially disabled people, young people who desperately need an opportunity for growth and development, women whose voice is finally getting power and neglected nature who needs recovery and a new approach.

Project supposed to be held from August 14 – September 18, 2022.
