Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina – International Burch University today proudly hosted a special "Read Japan" Book Donation Ceremony, marking a significant enhancement to its library collection and a strengthening of cultural and academic ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Japan. The event, held on 17th July 2025, at 11:00 AM in the University Library, celebrated the generous contribution from the Government of Japan through the "Read Japan" Project.
The ceremony formally commenced with a warm welcome extended to His Excellency Mr. Toshihiro Aiki, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina, alongside distinguished guests, academic colleagues, students, and friends. The opening address underscored that the generous donation, comprising 153 titles, profoundly reflects not only a robust commitment to education and reading culture but also the enduring friendship and robust collaboration between the two nations. It was particularly emphasised that this gift from the Government and the Embassy of Japan is highly appreciated, as it will undoubtedly enrich the university library and significantly support the academic development of its students and faculty.
Professor Dr. Mersid Poturak, Rector of International Burch University, addressed the audience, extending deepest gratitude for the "invaluable gift—a collection of 153 carefully selected titles spanning Japanese culture, art, history, and economics." Rector Poturak eloquently described the donation as "more than a contribution of books; it is a bridge—linking our students and scholars with the rich intellectual and cultural heritage of Japan." He underscored the importance of the Embassy of Japan's support in strengthening bilateral academic and cultural ties, highlighting that initiatives like the "Read Japan" Project remind us of the enduring value of knowledge-sharing and international co-operation.
Following the Rector's inspiring words, Ambassador Aiki delivered his remarks, further cementing the spirit of collaboration. The ceremony proceeded with the symbolic handover of the donation, where Ambassador Aiki presented the official certificate to the Rector, symbolising a shared dedication to knowledge, dialogue, and cultural exchange. In turn, Rector Poturak presented a Certificate of Appreciation to His Excellency, the Ambassador of Japan.
International Burch University, committed to global engagement, looks forward to further developing its relationship with Japanese institutions. This generous gesture encourages the exploration of new opportunities for student and faculty exchange, joint research, and intercultural dialogue, aiming to establish formal agreements that foster deeper academic collaboration.
The event concluded with an invitation for guests to view the newly displayed books, followed by light refreshments, providing an opportunity for informal conversations and further discussions on future partnerships.
